 6/24/26

Longtime MCCC Men’s Soccer Volunteer Assistant Coach John Pietrowski, known as Coach Pize threw out the First Pitch at the Trenton Thunder game on June 17th.  The night was “Soccer Night” and Coach Pize was an easy selection for the MCCC Athletic Department because of all he has done for the Mercer men’s soccer program.

Athletic Director Eric Grundman and Senior Women’s Administrator Erin Cahill-Wetzel refer to Coach Pize as “The Legend.”  “At 91 years young, to continue to coach and go to practices and games is amazing said Cahill-Wetzel.  We respect him so much in the Athletic Department and you can tell how much the players look up to him too.”

Pietrowski has been with Mercer men’s soccer since 1994.  He is a member of six Hall of Fames.  including the NJCAA Men's Soccer Coaches' Association Hall of Fame and the MCCC Athletic Hall of Fame.  He has helped lead Mercer men's soccer to three national titles, 16 trips to the NJCAA National Tournament and coached 29 All-Americans.

Coach Pize was inducted to both the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame and the Northern Highlands Regional High School Hall of Fame.  He coached at Northern Highlands for 27 years.  At Northern Highlands, Pietrowski won four state sectional titles, 16 league championships and was named Suburban Coach of the Year four times. Coach Pize has also been inducted into the New Jersey Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame and the Bergen County Boys Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Congratulations on this latest honor Coach Pize!  And being the legend he is Pietrowski threw the pitch straight to home plate.
